Robert Boynes, born in 1943, is an established artist who has had over thirteen solo exhibitions with Access Contemporary Art Gallery, now Brenda May Gallery, since his first in 1996. He studied at the South Australian School of Art and later earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film at Flinders University. Boynes has worked as a lecturer at various art institutions and held numerous exhibitions of his work, including a retrospective at the Nolan Gallery in Canberra in 1995. His early work was influenced by English pop art and photo-realism, and he later focused on exploring social and political issues and the alienation of the individual. Boynes has also depicted landscapes and urban environments in his art. His work is held in major art collections across Australia and internationally, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the National Gallery of Australia.
