Judy Cassab (1920 – 2015) was an Australian painter born in Vienna in 1920 to Jewish Hungarian parents. She fled the German occupation of Prague in 1939 and emigrated to Australia in 1951 with her husband and two sons. Cassab was the first woman to win the Archibald Prize twice, and she held more than fifty solo exhibitions in Australia, Paris, and London. She had an exceptional ability to depict not only the physical appearance but also the essence of the era in which their subjects lived. In addition to creating portraits of notable figures in society, including royalty, artists, acquaintances, and family members, she was also prolific work as a draftsman and landscape painter.
